I just finished The Threat Below by J S Latshaw and here is what I thought about it.
Icelyn dreams of a world outside of Mountaintop, a place where she feels like she doesn’t belong.
Her future, while all set and something most people dream of, isn’t the one she craves.
When the water supply starts to make people sick, she uses the opportunity to see what lies below outside of the safety of her home.
What she discovers is a world so fantastic and more dangerous than her mind could ever have conjured.
Can she and Adorane get to the water pump and fix whatever the issue is?.
Can they save their people from the Threatbelow or will they end up ripped to shreds like the rest of the group who went to help did…..
I received this book from an indie author and what he had to say about his book intrigued me enough that I thought I would give it a shot. He really blended dystopian fiction with fantasy in such an expert way that you will feel like you got two books for the price of one.
When I was finished I had so many questions about Icelyn’s bloodline and her link to the threatbelow and was pleasantly surprised to find it’s book 1 in a series. I loved Icelyn’s character development and watching her come to terms with how revered she is by a group she doesn’t understand but somehow, deep inside, feels she knows them all.
I loved the plot, it was such a refreshing change from the other dystopian/fantasy books I have read. I also really enjoyed the
I feel like the author did a great job with his descriptions of the threatbelow and how they came about but I’m thirsting to know more! I love when a book does that.
I will definitely be looking at reading book 2!
4.5 stars, would have been 5 stars but the POV got a little confusing a couple of times but other than that, highly recommend!
If you love a YA that straddles dystopian and fantasy in one beautifully executed read, then this has to be your next book!
Thank you to J S Latshaw for my review copy in exchange for my honest review.
