I just reviewed make me disappear by Jessica Payne
Noelle has seen red flags in a relationship before and she will be damned if she stays in this one any longer, the problem is Daniel isn't going to let her go.. her aunt mysteriously dies after a successful heart surgery… his ex-girlfriend goes missing but who could suspect the handsome doctor..
He sees everything with the cameras he snuck into her home and the spying apps on her phone… what he didn't see was a woman hell bent on getting out alive…
Whoa this book! Whoooaaaa! Loved every thrilling word of it. Twistier than a vine looking for light in a dense forest, this rollercoaster ride had my heart racing the entire time!
Noelle was fantastic. Just the right amount of strength and vulnerability. I wouldn't have gone to the lengths she did but she was so clever.
Totally did not see the twists coming!!
Loved the pace, it was consistent and amped up where it needed to. Expertly written and never lets up! I've read some really good thrillers in my time and this one is one of the greats!
The ending was amazing and I was not disappointed. If you love a good thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end… you need to add this one to your TBR right now!
5 stars!
Thank you Netgalley and bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I just reviewed The Younger Wife By Sally Hepworth
Father and heart surgeon Stephen is excited for his two daughters to meet the woman he is going to marry. Interior designer Heather who came to help remodel his home… for his wife.
Pam, who has advanced dementia, ends up moving into an assisted living home as Heather moves into their marital home.
Tully and Rachel are blind sided at the “meet the girlfriend lunch” and do not take kindly to this woman, who is younger than the pair, coming and taking their rich father away from their sick mother but Tully and Rachel both have their own problems and their mother…. During her states of lucidity has sinister things to say about the girl's father which only intensifies when Rachel finds a large amount of money hidden in a hot water bottle belonging to their mother.
Is what their mother says about their father true or just the ravings of a lady who doesn’t remember fact from fiction? Or is Heather a gold digger who moved in on a happily married man? Can they find out before it is too late to stop the wedding?
I have been so spoiled lately with how good the books! I loved that every single character has a problem or 2 in their own lives and it was thrilling to watch them grapple with their own demons while they try to separate fact from fiction when it comes to their parents.
I didn’t much care for Tully at first but the more I learned about her the more I found myself softening to her. The role of being a mother with her severe anxiety must be a challenge that leads her to getting up to things she shouldn’t. I totally get it.
Rachel I found quite lovely and I knew right from the get go why she was the way she was, the author doesn’t reveal the secret about her until over half way and you get a real understanding of her by then.
You don’t learn what is really going on with Stephen and Heather until the very end of the book and I was shocked I didn’t guess it. It was a pleasant twist. If you enjoy a well written and fantastically well thought out book then this beauty is the book for you. 4.5 stars

I just reviewed Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese
Isobel Gamble is a young seamstress with flaming red hair, married to the owner of an apothecary with a terrible addiction. After they lose everything in their home of Scotland in the 1800s they try their fortunes in the new world. After the Captain of the boat takes a shine to Isobel, he offers to take her husband on their next crossing as a medic in exchange for 1.5% of the total profits. Edward leaves but not before stealing a few gold coins from Isobel that her father had given her.
Isobel now has to find a way to take care of herself in a place where she knows no one.
She ends up meeting Nathanial Hawthorne, a man troubled by the legacy his family left behind. A legacy of sending innocent women to their deaths during the Salem witch trials. Unbeknown to him, Isobel has some extraordinary abilities that almost had her own ancestor killed. As the 2 are drawn together, something sinister is happening in the town of Salem. This time it’s not witches being persecuted but the now freed people of color. Someone is hunting them to return them to their slave owners.
Her closeness to her neighbor compels Isobel to help in the only way she knows whilst walking away from her love for Nathaniel she becomes the unwitting lead in his published book, The Scarlet Letter.
This reimagining took my breath away. The author took this story and really made it their own. The story they wove had me enthralled from the first sentence and it still hasn’t let me go. They breathed a magic so intoxicating that the words came alive right in front of my very eyes!
I wanted to reach out and hold Isobel’s hand so many times through the book. I loved watching her story unfold and all the colors that exploded from her gift was a treasure I wanted to hold on to. Her life was mixed with such tragedy and wonder that it made you wonder where she found the strength.
I really felt the character building was top notch and I loved how the author covered how people of color were treated even after it was illegal to keep slaves in the north. It was cleverly done!
5 star read thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review
Spotlight! Thanks for the memories by Cecelia Ahern!
How can you know someone you have never met?
Joyce Conway remembers things she shouldn't. She knows about tiny cobbled streets in Paris, which she has never visited. And every night she dreams about an unknown little girl with blond hair.
Justin Hitchcock is divorced, lonely and restless. He arrives in Dublin to give a lecture on art and is persuaded to donate blood. It's the first thing to come from straight from his heart in a long time.
When Joyce leaves hospital after a terrible accident, with her life and marriage in pieces, she moves back in with her elderly father. All the while a strong sense of deja vu is overwhelming her and she can't figure out why.

I just reviewed the Wolf Den by Elodie Harper
Amara was sold into slavery after her doctor father dies and her mother could not support them both. Having to work in one of the most infamous brothels, Amara with her intelligence and natural musical talents, finds a way of becoming more than just a piece of meat for the men who pay for her.
After finding a man she may be able to con into helping her become a free woman, she has to do what she has to do to save herself from the clutches of Felix, a man so ruthless he doesn’t care who he hurts to get his weight in denaris.
A historical fiction set in Pompeii, it follows the lives of Amara, Victoria, Dido, Cressida and others as they cope with the unsavory living and working conditions for a man called Felix. A violent man with a temper, all the women have come from different starts but all care for each other in their own ways.
Amara having been taught by her Father, she has an abundance of knowledge that helps her get the edge at the brothel. She starts to see a higher caliber of men and works some side hustles for Felix, a man you start off really hating and about 3/4s of the way through you see something you really don’t want to see in him but it makes you hate him a little less.
Amara is such a diverse character and I love her rawness. She came from something and had to find a way to cope being at the bottom of the food chain. I have to admit I don’t like her methods for having an easier time of life but you can’t fault her. I also felt the ending, even though she got what she wanted, was so hollow.
This book broke me a little inside at the life these women had to live and the complexities of their positions in a world they shouldn’t have had to live in. I was beside myself with joy when I realized this was the first book in a trilogy! I am so excited to see what comes next from these she-wolves.
4.5 stars for me. It was a very well written historical fiction with brilliantly executed character development. I would love to know more about Dido in the next book so fingers crossed for that!
If you love a solid historical fiction page turner with a little romance and a lot of grit, add to list.
Who wouldn’t want 2 weeks in a villa in the south of France with their family! However, Nora has some news to give her daughters which she isn’t finding easy to say… Instead of bringing them together, the secrets will tear them apart at the seams.
This is a good exploration of motherhood and family dynamics and just how strained families can be. I enjoyed that the book came from both the daughters perspective and the mother. As the book gets going, it does start to fit you in the feelers but the whole book was a little slow for me.
I needed a livelier pace and this one had me struggling to get through the last third.
It was a solid 3.5 stars for me. I didn’t feel there was a lot going on in the book for how long of a read it was and the dynamics felt a little weird in areas. It was definitely well thought out but it just didn’t quite hit the mark for me unfortunately.

I just reviewed The House by Christina Lauren
Delilah returns home from boarding school to finish out her high school education at her local high school. Being here is something she did not want but the upside, Gavin is still here… Still mysterious and driving her teenage hormones into overdrive.
Gavin lives in a house all alone… A house that is not what it seems. Everyone in town steers clear of the haunted house.
Little do they know the house isn’t just haunted. The house is a living, breathing entity and all it wants is Gavin.
As Gavin and Delilah get closer, the house gets more possessive. What will the house do to keep from losing Gavin… Or maybe a better question is… What wouldn’t it do….
This book was so much better than I was anticipating. The synopsis for the book didn’t do it justice in my opinion. While it didn't outright scare the living daylights out of you, it had this creepy undertone to the writing that gave it just the right amount of sinister to keep you obsessively turning the pages.
Biggest downfall for me, the fierce little teenage girl trope. I think if they had toned that down a little and made Delilah fight her fears to be with Gavin, that would have worked so much better.
I adored the explanation as to why the house was the way it was. Brilliantly executed. It never lulled either, the pace was expertly kept and I definitely will be looking more from this author.
The story comes from both Delilahs and Gavins perspectives, which I would usually hate but it worked so well for this book as it gave us the chance to understand why Gavin feels the way he does about the house and his life inside it while getting to know Delilah through her own thoughts and words and not through someone else's eyes.
The ending was a little too “neat” for me. I would have liked it not to have been wrapped up so nice in a bow. It was just over. Done…. I think the ending could have been done a little differently but other than that, solid 4.5 stars for me

Unmask Alice by Rick Emerson
Unmask Alice covers the story of Beatrice Sparks… a woman so desperate to become a writer, she fabricates diary excerpts and puts them out as non fiction….
Unmask Alice: LSD, Satanic Panic, and the Imposter Behind the World's Most Notorious Diaries is a true story of contagious deception. It stretches from Hollywood to Quantico, and passes through a tiny patch of Utah nicknamed "the fraud capital of America." It's the story of a doomed romance and a vengeful celebrity. Of a lazy press and a public mob. Of two suicidal teenagers, and their exploitation by a literary vampire.
Unmask Alice . . . where truth is stranger than nonfiction.
This was what made me want to read this book so bad!
Go ask Alice was used to push the agenda on drugs during the war on drugs. The father of a young lady who ended up dying because of her life choices, made it his mission in life to vilify the drug LSD instead of blaming the choices his daughter made that led to her death. He needed something or someone to blame.
The second book Jay’s journal, came from a real boy… a real boy who committed suicide but she made his story into a dramatically version of events, making it seem like he was a devil worshipper.
Not only did she lie about being a psychologist, she used people to get what she wanted. She was the worst kind of bottom feeder.
These books helped fuel hysteria in the 70s and 80s. This book was a real eye opener on the dangers propaganda can have on the population. This is a problem we still see today. Politicians and the news feeding media hysteria to get what they needed. This book goes into details of what the president did to get what he wanted and it was never about public safety.
This is a cautionary tale of how you should always be mindful of what you are reading and whether you can take it for facts. You need to think for yourself and do research rather than blindly trusting.
The author did a ton of research and it was well thought out. I really enjoyed the way it held my attention. I actually had no idea about this woman and these books but now I want to know more.
4.5 stars for me!

When it Rains
by Mark Allan Gunnells
The book centers on a group of people all in a campus bookstore, waiting out the rain.
The rain is no ordinary rain…. It’s slimy and no one knows anything about it except that it is raining the same rain all over the world. No one knows if it is safe… No one knows what will happen to the people who got the rain on their skin…
The tension starts to rise when those who did get wet and the ones who didn’t, are at each other's throats. Are the people who got wet in danger? Are the people around them in danger too?
This one was just ok for me. It was a little slow in places and honestly it could have done with a lot less points of view. The only people I connected with were Helen and Eugene. Such a sweet couple but the rest of the characters felt massively undeveloped, which I understand being that it’s a novella but it was a little one dimensional.
Loved the concept of the rain and the unknown. I would have liked some theories on what it could have potentially been but I can overlook that. I felt the whole premise was quite clever, I just needed more. Less points of view and more about the people that were focused on. More newsy articles would have been great too. While I hate not getting satisfactory answers on where the rain came from and what it was, the twist at the end was very well done.
3.5 stars for me.
If you like a little horror with a twist then this book is a must read!

The Women of Rothschild
The Untold Story of the World's Most Famous Dynasty
by Natalie Livingston
I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist so the chance for a deep look into the Rothchilds was definitely an exciting prospect for me.
It was really an enigmatic look into the building of an empire into a world of wealth that seemingly ignores what the women in the family accomplish. Interesting really considering they were used a lot in the banking world as what the men considered, free labor.
Even since the very start the family have been entrepreneurs and widely independent. They have had their fingers in many pies over the centuries and seeing just where these women fit has really been quite interesting. The fact that they accomplished what they accomplished back then, during a time where Jews were treated like vermin, is actually quite inspiring.
The clause in Mayer’s will must have been heartbreaking for his daughters but I bet it didn’t come as any real surprise.
It was really quite an insightful read. I had no idea of the inner workings of the earlier Rothchild’s and how independent and savvy a lot of the women were. I would love to know more to be honest, about the family. I felt this book, while well researched, opened up a rabbit hole for me now. I have questions.
It was a little spiritless, I felt the tone was a little one dimensional. I felt it could have done with tonality and a little personality into the writing but that might be just me. It could have been a lot more gripping of a read with a little color.
The author did a lot of research and it was stitched together very well. It was a very pragmatic approach for providing the history.
Definitely worth the read and if you have an interest in the Rothchilds or are a conspiracy theorist like me, this is one for your shelves.
4 stars

I just reviewed The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
Millie is desperate, desperate for this job... To work as a maid in the beautiful home for the immaculate Nina..
Her situation has gotten dire and she needs this job more than Nina needs a maid.
Never in a million years does she think she will get hired then one day…. The call came. Nina offers her the position! The best news she has heard in years! She will do the best job and give Nina no reason to fire her. Millie comes with a dark past and all she wants is a new start but is the Winchesters home the place to get that? Has Millie made a mistake getting caught up in their lives or is the mistake theirs?
The goosebumps still haven’t gone down! I got severe whiplash from the twistiest turns no book has ever had! You know that feeling you get in your stomach, when it gets all knotted and it feels like you are falling down.. I had that feeling through most of the book. Everytime I thought I had it figured out…. WRONG!!!
Millie…. Oh Millie. I felt all kinds of emotions with her. I felt sorry for her, I felt afraid for her, I felt disgusted with her… You never really know how to feel from one page to the next and it’s so expertly done, I am still reeling.
Nina is the worst kind of boss. I would have quit after a day but Millie wasn’t in a position to and I felt aghast for Millie but that soon turned into outrage! What kind of people are any of them! Don’t even get me started on Andrew. He is the very reason I am so glad I am married haha.
No one in this book ends up being who you think they are and I adore that! I couldn’t trust my own judgment towards the end.
The pace was outstanding. It held the pace where it needed to and accelerated just in the right spots. I have a severe book hangover right now!
If you love a top notch psychological thriller that will have you questioning your own sanity, then this 5 star read is for you.

The wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie lang
The story starts with 2 sisters, one who has just discovered she is pregnant and the other, graduating high school. The relationship strained after the youngest sister went into foster care.. she ends up there because their mother leaves their house one day and never returns.
They hope to rekindle their sisterhood with a road trip… problem is Zadie has no idea her little sister, who not only has the ability to read echoes of past memories, doesn't want to go on their trip. She wants to use her abilities to find their missing mother. She wants Zadie to use her psychic powers to help her in her journey and find the mother Finn believes didn't leave them behind.
This story was full of surprises. I loved every twist and turn and the supernatural element was so artfully done.
It didn't feel like it was the biggest focus of the story either. It was a really intelligent move to make the story more about the mystery of their missing mother and rebuilding their relationship and the sixth sense extraordinary abilities as a side bar.
My secret hope is there are more about sixes in more books to come from the author. I think they found a unique and original storyline that could really go places.
I adored reading about the authors' take on six senses and how they work. I was so excited reading this book! I don't normally get as giddy as a 5 year old with a piece of cake but I did.
If you love a heart warming read with a supernatural twist and a whole load of mystery then this book has to be on your list.

I just reviewed death and the conjuror by Tom mead
it's 1930s England and the death of a world renowned psychiatrist, has rocked Scotland yard to its core. The Dr. was found in his office, alone and locked in from the inside.
How did the perpetrator get out? Can Scotland yard figure it out before it is too late?
With no clues, no witnesses, and not one trace of a murder weapon the stumped detective on the case calls on retired stage magician and now sleuth Joseph Spector to help unravel the mystery and bring the person responsible to justice.
I found the premise brilliant! The mystery of the locked room and no seeming motive was so delicious I couldn't put the book down. The twists and turns and all the second guessing lasted right up until the big reveal at the end. Expertly done. I do have some issues with the book. I felt the introduction to Spector lacking. It left me wondering if there was a book before that I had missed where he was properly introduced. That could have been done so much better. More back story and understanding as to why the detective decided to approach him in the first place for help. I felt like a big part of the whole story was missing and that is still how I felt when it ended.
I loved all the characters. Touching on the different types of psychomachia was clever and made the characters more tangible. Della really was a conundrum and I would have actually liked to have known more about her for my own curiosity. The only character I didn't much care for was the daughter Lidia. I think she was deliberately made unlikeable which shows how much skill the author has.
If you love a good whodunnit that will leave you guessing until the very end then this crime debut will have you scratching your head and thirsting for me.

The Rose code by Kate Quinn
1940. As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train to break German military codes. Vivacious debutante Osla is the girl who has everything—beauty, wealth, and the dashing Prince Philip of Greece sending her roses—but she burns to prove herself as more than a society girl, and puts her fluent German to use as a translator of decoded enemy secrets. Imperious self-made Mab, product of East-End London poverty, works the legendary code-breaking machines as she conceals old wounds and looks for a socially advantageous husband. Both Osla and Mab are quick to see the potential in local village spinster Beth, whose shyness conceals a brilliant facility with puzzles, and soon Beth spreads her wings as one of the Park’s few female cryptanalysts. But war, loss, and the impossible pressure of secrecy will tear the three apart.
1947. As the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip whips post-war Britain into a fever, three friends-turned-enemies are reunited by a mysterious encrypted letter—the key to which lies buried in the long-ago betrayal that destroyed their friendship and left one of them confined to an asylum. A mysterious traitor has emerged from the shadows of their Bletchley Park past, and now Osla, Mab, and Beth must resurrect their old alliance and crack one last code together. But each petal they remove from the rose code brings danger—and their true enemy—closer...

A man called Ove by Fredrik Backman...
I'm gonna say it... I love Ove. The more I read, the more I understood why he was like he was.
Ove is a man of principles and believes in hardwork and following the rules.
After the loss of his wife, ove sets about doing what needs to be done to be reunited with his wife, the only person who ever saw Ove as the man he truly is. Unfortunately for Ove his neighbors and their blasted needs get right in his way. Add in a stray cat and Ove suddenly has more to live for then he realized.
You won't be able to hold back the laughter or the tears when you crack this bad boy open.
Backman weaves a story of a man with so much tragedy that you can't help but feel a little heartbroken for him while laughing at the funny things he says and does.
It was artful written and you won't be able to help clutching the book close to your chest for a moment once you are finished.
5 stars for me.
QOTD what fiction character do you love that you are supposed to hate?

Crazy rich Asians was sooooo much better than I was anticipating.
I watched the movie with my eldest daughter when it came out so I already had the movie in my head.
Didn't matter because the book was a million times better.
It follows the story of Nick and Rachel going to Nick's best friends wedding who he is best man for. Rachel not knowing much about Nick's family gets thrown into the world of lavish spending and who is wearing what!
Nick's family do not want him proposing to Rachel. She isn't right to join the family. Having hatched an elaborate scheme to send Rachel packing ends with undesirable consequences, will Nick's family relent or will they lose their heir?
I now need all the books. All of them. The ending blew my dang mind!

I just review The baby shower by SE Lynes
Jane is a normal woman, with normal friends and a wonderful husband and business. The only downside to her life is the fact she can't get pregnant. Her friend Sophie introduces another lady into their friend fold... A woman called Lexie. As Lexie weaves herself into Sophies life and seems to be actively trying to push Jane out, Jane starts to feel abandoned. Then at the worst possible moment Sophie finds out she is pregnant and Lexie, being the new best friend, wants to throw her an elaborate baby shower at the ritz.
Is Jane imagining the bullying or is Sophie right? Is she just jealous of Sophies baby and her new friendship that she isn't seeing the reality of the situation? Will Jane ever figure it out? Or will she spiral to a dark place she can never return from?
I found the dynamic of the whole book brilliant! I could feel Janes pain of not having a baby of her own while having to watch her best friend get pregnant again and glow with the warmth only being pregnant can bring you. It would be devastating. I could also see Sophies side too. Imagine telling your best friend you are having a baby and know they will secretly hate you a little bit for it.
I didn't like Lexie from the first moment she appeared. I hate people like her anyway but when you join a new friend dynamic, you don't act like that so I was automatically waiting for her to do something horrific.
This book had a brilliant shocker at the end of the book and a lot of twists and turns during it. One of the main ones I did figure out pretty soon but it wasn't obvious. It was very well done but I just had a feeling early in.
I would have liked more from Lexie's point of view. It would have rounded this book out for me had this happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book and we definitely be on the hunt for more from the author.
If you love a twisty dark psychological thriller with a basis in friendship, this is the book for you.
Solid 4 stars, like I said, more about Lexie would have made this a 5 star for me.

I just reviewed The Party at Number 12 by Kerry Wilkinson. #ThePartyatNumber12 #NetGalley
Hannah and her sisters come into some inheritance and after her divorce, she decides to go travelling.
Her family want to throw a party as a farewell.... But Hannah can't help but feel this isn't a good idea especially when she invites both her friends who can't stand each other.
The following morning things take an unpleasant turn when Hannah wakes up to find one of the partygoers dead in their bed.
It had to be an accident but it doesn't look good on the people that attended the party. Will the police think it was one of them? They all have something to lose by calling the police but could it be more sinister? What if there is someone lurking around the luxury rental? Or worse, what if it was someone Hannah knows and loves who could do the unthinkable?
This book took me on the ride of my life! It kept me on my toes the whole time. The twists were artfully done to the extent that I had no clue what the truth was and I never figured it! I was blown away by the ending. My husband was laughing at me so hard when I sat bolt up right in bed and shouted WTF NOOOOO. I'm usually so composed.
I could relate to Hannah with her family dynamic. I could also empathize with her need to have both her friends back in her life.
The more I find out about the deceased, the more I felt the story of their history was so tragic. You don't realize it when they are alive but your whole attitude towards them will change.
I totally misunderstood Zack the whole way through too so this book will have you guessing and kept an incredible delectable pace that will leave you invigorated but satisfied. No unanswered questions and not one lull in the story. This book ticks all the boxes for a psychological read and then some.
If you need a twisty little breath of fresh air that will set your heart racing like you are on a rollercoaster but not get your hair out of place, then this is your next must read!
Thank you netgalley and bookouture for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I just reviewed #TheWitchsKnight by #PaulaBrackston and #TrevorBrackston
When William the Conqueror became king of all of England, Wales didn’t escape his clutches and he set about conquering the home of Lady Gwen. Tragically she not only loses her parents, her home and close to losing her life, she discovers she is a hereditary witch and not just any witch, a witch of the white shadow. With this knowledge she must make the ultimate commitment to not only keep evil at bay, but to be able to find her true love, the knight sworn to protect her again.
As Lady Gwen becomes Rhiannon, Queen Witch, she has to learn to leave the person she thought she was behind and learn the ways of her ancestors to be ready to fight for humanity in a battle so fierce it could rock the whole world to its core.
Can she learn her craft and protect the people who have now become her family? Will her agreement with her coven be too much for her and will she ever find her knight again?
This book was a slam dunk for me. The magic the authors weaved on the page had me so enthralled, I couldn’t put it down.
The book straddles the past and present time in such a way that it doesn’t feel like two separate stories. It flows gently like a river over its rock bed with a natural rhythm and elegant class. The pace was exactly how a good historical fiction should be and the characters had so much depth and richness I could feel my heart racing to find out what would happen next! I am not usually one to be dramatic but when I got to the end I squeaked out loud and actually turned my iPad over to see if there was more… The climax will have me biting my nails until I can get my hands on the next book. This book ticks every box, will fill all the pieces of your soul and have you on a monumental rollercoaster ride that will have your whole body screaming for more.
If you love supernatural historical fiction that will have you feeling the welsh winds on your face and drawing your sword to battle for the good of humanity in your head, then this book has to be your next read.
5 stars isn’t enough to portray the gravity of excellence this book has pouring from its pages

Can I just take a moment to silent applaud the author #alkajoshi .... WOW!
I don't know why I waited so long to crack this 5 star read open!
The Henna Artist follows the lives of 2 sisters, Lakshmi who had no idea she had a 13 year old sister Radha, until she turns up out of the blue one day with Lakshmi's abusive husband, a man she fled from many years ago.
The book centers on Lakshmi trying to navigate the loss of her parents and the unexpected arrival of her sister while keeping her flourishing henna business alive.
Lakshmi has many talents which eventually sees her working at the palace. Her dreams of having her home made the way she wants it, soon to be realized but her sister, not raised in the ways of their conventional home of Jaipur, India, gets herself into the kind of trouble only Lakshmi can get her out of.
The story is delicious. I loved every word, every moment of this book.
Watching the struggles both these sisters go through while trying to find a way to be a family..... breathtaking.
The story flowed and the pace was so precise, the author is a master with the written word.
I loved the character development. Everyone had this charm about them which can't help but drag you into 1950s india and have you wishes you could feel the summer heat on your face and the sand under your toes.
I felt nothing was left unanswered and although I wouldn't say no to a sequel.
This was the very best historical fiction read I have read this year. Might even be in my top 10.
If you love a good historical fiction with a great pace, that nails the very epitome of women's fiction, then this is the book for you.

The premise was excellent, a stranger comes to near and that same night..... a child goes missing. As more children go missing over the course of the week, the town hunts for the stranger and the only thing standing in their way is Lexi. She knows he isn't to blame but can she find out who or what is taking the kids before it is too late?
It was a solid read.
I didn't really connect with Lexi. She felt a little dry. It didn't take from the story. I would have loved to know more about the Near Witch. I felt that it fell short which is why it didn't get 5 stars.
The predictable love story was tolerable as I felt it didn't consume the whole book so I over looked it. It was worth the read and I read it in one sitting.
The writing was really good, the author knows what they are doing. I will read more of her work.
If you love a solid YA Fantasy read that is easy and flows, this is the one for you.

I just reviewed the Paris network by Siobhan Curham
It's the 1940s and the Nazis have taken over the town where a young lady, living alone, owns a book store. Laurence doesn't just own a book store, she prescribes poems and books to the people of the town like a prescription a doctor would give them, to help them with whatever need they have.
What else does a young woman living alone in France during the most dangerous time of her life do? She joins the French resistance.
She puts her life on the line for the people who have now become her family and for the freedom of France but can she survive what the resistance is asking her to do? Can she help liberate her people and end the Nazi invasion?
I needed a moment after I was done with this book. The tears I didn't know I was crying, slipping silently down my cheeks was all the noise I could handle.
Laurence, took root in my soul right from the first moment I read her name. I felt like I was right there with her. Living her life, feeling her emotions, reading the books through her eyes.
Right from the beginning she was never going to give up France to the Nazis. She was not going to collaborate. She was not going to hand over her radio.
I ask myself would I have been brave enough to join the resistance? I honestly hope I would but the dangers she faced.... She was an amazing hero in a time where a lone woman should have been keeping her head down.
She meets Wendell during one of her missions and the sparks flew. I could feel their passion flaming down my spine. Every page I needed to know if they ever found their way back to each other.
The rest of the story is set in the 1990s where Jeanne, a detective now in early retirement finds out the lady she buried, her mother, wasn't really her mother and now her father Wendell has some explaining to do. After Wendell gives Jeanne the deeds to the bookstore in France, they both travel to France in hopes of finding out what really happen to Laurence and why she had to send Jeanne as a baby away to the safety of her Father.
If you love a well written, flawlessly researched, page turning read, this is the one for you. 5 stars

This book gave me chills. Men grooming young kids is way more common than you know.
I think this book was tastefully done, although I can see why this book would trigger some people.
As someone who was groomed by an older man at a very young age, I can appreciate Vanessa's perspective. I had no idea I was being abuse. It took a therapist weeks to get through to me what had happened. You are so well groomed that you still repeat the same things they told you to believe.
Vanessa handled things quite well even with all the self destructiveness she did to herself during the time frames.
The book follows two time lines, one when she was 15 and aging through school and college and the present day.
The book was well written and well researched. I do feel there was something missing. The pace could have been a little faster.
solid 4 star read

I just finished reviewing, The Whispers by Heidi perks
The Whispers of school parents with nothing better to do..... They do tend to whisper about the 4 elusive mothers who always stand away from everyone else and do everything together.
Then Anna's friend Grace returns after being gone for years.... This causes serious issues for the foursome.. Issues so bad that Anna disappears after a night with all 5 of them.
Grace is the only who seems to want to find out what happened that night. Can she find out what the 4 women are hiding? Grace is Anna's only hope..
Ok this one was a little disappointing. The writing was good but it was a little slow in places. The tone was kind of the same all the way through which is what lost a star for it. It could have done with some changes in pace and this would have been a winner.
I loved that it was twisty and you never really knew what was going on but none of the twists were mind blowing and that was a bit of a let down. As far of psychological thrillers go, this one was pretty good just there some room in the writing to really blow my mind and it just fell short.
The character development was well done and planned out. No plot holes and you can tell the author has a lot of talent.
If you love a good psychological read then this is the one for you.
4 stars!

I just reviewed The Lobotomist's Wife By Samantha Greene Woodruff
Ruth being the extraordinary woman she is, dedicated her life, much to her parents chagrin, to the care for patients with varying degrees of mental health issues. Her dedication stemming from the mental health challenges her deceased brother faced after the war....
While running her family's private hospital, she hires Dr. Robert Apter, she finds herself drawn to his charisma and his passionate needs to cure mental health issues that mirror her own.
Ruth finds herself falling in love with Dr. Apter and the set about marrying and revolutionizing care for those with no other treatment options. Things go well for years as Robert builds a reputation for his lobotomy procedures, being called all over the country to perform them.
A chance meeting of a long term patient has Ruth questioning the effectiveness of lobotomies on Robert's patients and it sets her on a path she never wanted to be on. Can she find the truth about what he has been up to before it is too late?
I found this book gripping! The whole premise of a woman high up in the medical establishment and putting her family money to good use, only to find herself not so infallible to a mans charms that she is blinded by her love.
I loved the dynamic of a work home life for the married couple. Ruth with her tender heart and compassion, made me feel like I was reading about a dear friend. You can see why she fell in love with Robert and why things were missed that she would have caught had she not been romantically invested in him.
The book brings to light the harsh realities of what passed for medical treatment in the early 1930’s for people suffering with a mental health disorder. Lobotomies were, at the time, considered pioneering in the medical field until the data just didn't add up and it was ultimately stopped. Doctors like Apter are actually very common when the ego and reputation does more harm that good.
The author did a smashing job of bringing all the characters to life. The book was well rounded, fascinating to read and I felt engaged the whole way through! 5 Stars! #bookreview #bookrec #bookstagram #booklover #bookshelf

A botanist's guide to parties and poisons introduces us to Saffron, a research assistant and up and coming botanist. While attending a party the hostess is passes out and is whisked off to hospital. Much to Saffrons dismay, her mentor is arrested for poisoning Mrs. Henry, the wife of the upcoming expedition leader, something Saffron refusing to believe. The police has one lead, a plant no one will go near that her mentor, Dr Maxwell, has in one of the University greenhouses, as the attempted murder weapon.
Saffron with the reluctant help of Alexander Ashton, set about finding out what really happened that night. Will she uncover the truth before the criminal sets sail away from punishment or will she find herself in mortal danger instead?
The title hooked me so hard with this one and I was so excited to start it. Firstly, it is very well written. It flowed, it didn't drop the pace and it not once lost my attention.
Saffron is one heck of a young lady. Following in her dead fathers footsteps and working at the university that he worked for, she has very large shoes to fill. Being a woman in that time too, shows the level of courage and perseverance she had to have to make it to where she was. I felt the character development was very well done and I loved watching her meet the challenges she faced and the relationship blossoming with Alexander.
I felt the rest of the characters could have done with some of the same level of expansion. We learned very little of Alexander and nothing of the other characters. I don't know if that was done on purpose or not but I felt it would have rounded the story out more having more details on the lesser characters.
I felt there were some loose threads in the story that needed to tightened and they were left kind of hanging. It doesn't take from the story at all though, it literally just would have strengthen it in my opinion.
I loved the whodunnit element that ran through the whole book! It has me guessing the whole time.
The author really weaved a tale of early blooming love while never losing sight of the base storyline.
4.5 stars out of 5 for me.thabk you #netgally and #katekhavari for this wonderful read #bookrecs

I just reviewed the stepchild by #nicoletrope
The Stepchild happens to be a girl of 12, a girl who's parents have divorced and both remarried.
Shelby is left to watch her little 3 year old Millie while her stepmother, Leslie goes to the store.
While Leslie is out, Millie is goes missing. Shelby knows what has happened but cannot bring herself to tell the truth. Now every minute the Millie is missing is a minute closer to finding out something awful has happened to her. Leslie and Randall hold a press conference in hopes someone comes forward with information as to where Millie might be....
Ruth sees the news and knows the man the camera is capturing. A man who has changed his name yet that face is unforgettable.... A man who did unspeakable things to her when she was a child. She knows what she has to do but can she do it? Can she leave her routine and the safety she has so delicately constructed for herself and do what needs to be done for that missing little girl?
I honestly didn't think this book was going to be a brilliant as it was. I was hoping for a solid 3.5 star read and found a 5 star! I was gripped from the very beginning. It was intense! I could fear Leslie's fear. I could feel the guilt she was feeling. Leslie experiences the very worst fear any parent can have and you see her internal monologue.. Wondering if she looks guilty. That she doesn't look sad enough and people can see that. She feels rage at her stepchild for lying about what happened and yet can see something is very wrong with the girl.
I think the author captured the complexity of blended families and how each persons roles can change in a snap. No one is blameless yet no one is really to blame. The twists were fantastic and kept me guessing. I was never sure what was going to happen next! I read it in one sitting. I had to.
The author took every mothers worst nightmare and painted a canvas in every color of the despair. If you love psychological thrillers, this is the book for you
5 stars!! Wish I had the option to give it more!!

I just reviewed Moment in time by Suzanne Redfearn
It was such a thrill to know a moment in time was about Mo and Chloe, 8 years after the disaster of in an instant. Chloe a vet and Mo.... running a business and succeeding at it.
she
Chloe reeling from a breakup and staying with Mo and their friend Hazel, balances her job while just trying to get through the day then something awful happens to Hazel. Something that should have happened to Mo but a phone call saves her from that fate.
Chloe and Mo go on a whirlwind trek to find Hazel before hazel does something she will regret. After the man who attacks hazel is found drugged and beaten, the race is on to discover the truth.
The whole book centers on Mo and Chloe, how their friendship is evolving and they are both discovering things about themselves in their quest to find the truth.
I adored watching Chloe really shaping herself into a woman I can admire and her tenacity and spirit never faltering even in spite of how bad things get. Her passion for dogs and the need to do the right thing, made her a woman I could be friends with.
I was on the edge of my seat for 90% of the book. I couldn't put it down. The writing was flawless and beautiful and flowed off the page like the river flowing over a rock bed . I felt like I was right there with all 3 women. Their personalities shone through and they felt so real. Each character had real depth and I felt wonderfully emerged in their lives.
If you love a good mystery with classic undertones, this is the book for you. I think the author did an amazing job of holding the suspense, giving the book a real nice twist and covering a difficult subject while never losing sight of the storyline. Never lost its rhythm and my attention never waivered.
Definitely will be buying a copy upon release. 5 stars! Wish I could give it more.

I just reviewed the children on the hill by Jennifer mcmahon
The children on the hill is the story of 2 children who live with their psychiatrist Grandmother after losing their parents. Their lives are unusual in the sense they are home schooled with above average intelligence learning the ways of the world through the assignments from the grandmother and having very little to do with the real world. They have a club, the monster club. The story really takes a twist when their grandmother brings home one of the children from her work, a place called the Inn. A place for people with mental health issues and a criminal background. A place that is like a halfway house with Gran at the helm. The child who doesn't talk and doesn't remember anything is integrated into their family as a sibling.... It's up to Vi to keep an eye on her.
The book follows 2 time periods and excerpts from a book which tells us a little of the in-between time. 13 year old Vi is our narrator for the past and Lizzy in 2019. It's brilliantly executed and seamless in the transitions between both times. I couldn't put the book down. I literally thought my eye were going to start bleeding.
The twists in this book gave me whiplash so hard I am surprised I am not in hospital. I did not see them coming.
The suspense had me gripped so tight I had to remind myself to breathe.
You need to read this book, yes I am talking to you.
If you love a book with twists so hard you can feel the earth move then this is the book for you. I wish I could give it more stars.
My only regret was reading it so early in the year, what book will come close to this one now?

The Tattooist of Auschwitz had been sitting on my pile for quite some time before I picked it up but once I did, I couldn’t put it down.
The book is based on an actual survivor of the death camp, a man who goes by the name Lale.
Instantly you can feel the compassion he has for his fellow man even in the darkest of places. He treated everyone with respect and kindness even in a world so dark and hopeless, he never gave up.
He becomes the tattooist during his incarceration, given the task to tattoo the numbers onto other prisoners. Here is where he meets Gita… She captures his heart in a moment. Even dirty and with a shaved head, she rocked his world.
The story follows his time in the camp and the things he does to make other prisoners' lives better while trying to steal moments with Gita.
The pace was slower than I usually like in a book but it worked so well. It gave you the time to really feel who Lale was and what he stood for. The lengths he went to and the dangers he put himself in just to make it a little better for others.
This story cut me to core. Our world today is full of hate and anger yet those prisoners had it so much worse and don’t act like people do today. It saddens me to think that this is what our world has come to but Lale and Gita come through it based on their love and their hope for a better tomorrow.
If you are looking for a book to tear your entire world apart and put you back together better than it found you, this is the book for you.
Being a hopeless romantic myself this book checked every box for me. Love and hope won in the end but it could have gone so badly wrong on so many levels. Every person Lale touched was better for knowing him. Have you been like that to someone today? If not then whatever personal things standing in your way of being a better person might need to be addressed because no matter what was thrown at Lale, he never treated anyone with anything less than kindness and respect. It really put my life into a whole new perspective.
5 stars for me.

Sloane, Ardie, Grace, and Rosalita have worked at Truviv, Inc. for years. The sudden death of Truviv’s CEO means their boss, Ames, will likely take over the entire company. Each of the women has a different relationship with Ames, who has always been surrounded by whispers about how he treats women. Those whispers have been ignored, swept under the rug, hidden away by those in charge.
But the world has changed, and the women are watching this promotion differently. This time, when they find out Ames is making an inappropriate move on a colleague, they aren’t willing to let it go. This time, they’ve decided enough is enough.
Sloane and her colleagues’ decision to take a stand sets in motion a catastrophic shift in the office. Lies will be uncovered. Secrets will be exposed. And not everyone will survive. All of their lives―as women, colleagues, mothers, wives, friends, even adversaries―will change dramatically as a result.

Magic lessons by Alice Hoffman
I was instantly hooked from the very first page. It's like she bewitched the pages and I couldn't help but read until my eyes were burning!
We start right back at the beginning of the Owen's family line. Maria, what a captivating woman. I could not get enough of her. She truly shines and I could feel the loss emanating from the words and into my soul. I felt like my heart was screaming and had no release. The way the characters blend and the manner their lives were intertwined... Sheer brilliance. To see how Maria and Faith turned from children to women and the strife they endured, especially during the most dangerous time in our history, not just for witches but for women as a whole.
It was the such a genius roller coaster of true good magic, dark magic, passion, life, surrender and despair. I would have been shaken less placed in a martini shaker. I loved the little notes about what plants do what too. It made me wish I had a garden so full of magical wonder!
I thoroughly enjoyed how well researched the book was and the tempo the book was written at. The highs and the lows. It was all done with such delicacy and charm that you wonder how anyone can write a book any better.
If you love books with strong yet humble lead characters and men who bring you trees from the furthest reaches of the world, then this is the book for you. It truly was the best of the three for me.
Your heart will break a dozen different ways but the love that shines from the pages will have you put back together a better person.

Another review! Today I reviewed
First Date by Sue Watson
I decided to read this one because of the buzz online.... Al I can say is.... What the heck did I just read!!
Hannah, poor Hannah. She literally lives everyone's worst nightmare! Alex... Ah, he seems like such a dream boat. Who wouldn't be drawn to him... He seems to know every dream in Hannah's soul.... Every thought... Every need....
Watching Hannah live through what she lived through and you are never 100% sure who is doing what and if what is happening is actually what is happening. I did not see the twists coming!! I think I had my mouth open so long that actual drool was pooling into my lap! Definitely worth picking up but set aside a block of time because you are going to find it very difficult to put down.
It's cleverly put together, fast paced and keeps you guessing right until the end. The writing was a little amateur in places and it did seem to get off topic once or twice but all in all a good psychological read.
If you love your books fast paced, with a twisted simplicity to the story line then this is a must read.
4 stars... I do think it could have gotten away with being edgier and a little more graphic but all in all I was very happy with it.

The Violin Makers Daughter by Sharon Maas
5 stars!
A riveting tale of impressionable Sarah, an apprentice violin maker and non-practising jew in the midst of a raging war, systematically spreading through Europe. The first time the Nazi’s appear they decide to hide their Jewish background and stay in their beloved family home. The terrorizing wait to see if they can remain hidden and be left in peace…. The ultimate betrayal eventually comes and their status of Aryan decent has come into question and they are given a week to provide the paperwork…
The time has come to flee but they cannot flee together. Sarah must go alone and she must leave first. Her life depends on her ability to blend in, keep her head down, trust the people she does not know to keep her safe. She must learn to keep her emotions in check. Keeping the despair of leaving her family from bubbling to the surface and her blind hatred for all Germans under wraps as to not draw attention to herself.
On her journey she mets Ralf, German and a soldier. She still can’t bring herself to trust him even after her saves her life. Now he’s on the run too and agrees to get Sarah safety to where she needs to be. During their journey he will do much more than just protect her…. He will teach her to avoid detection, master her emotions, be brave and how to survive… He shows her that just as a war can destroy and create hate, It doesn’t have the power to stop an all consuming love.
Hiding their identities as the race across France, Ralf and Sarah continue their journey together. All too soon Ralf is captured and Sarah has a choice to make.
You can feel the emotional rollercoaster she is on. You literally watch her throw off her adolescences and transition into womanhood in such a quick succession, it would make anyones head spin. It really comes to a head when she is saved by a young German Soldier, Ralf who is now on the run too, having risked his life to save her and her friend Eric.
The journey is, at times, agony to read. Sarahs hatred for all Germans is so black and white that she can’t, at first, see there is so much grey all around her.. #igreads #bookreview #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookworm #book
