I just finished book one and book two of the Pandemonium series by @moirabarrie and here are my thoughts.
Book one - The chase after midnight
Ava is living the kind of life any 24 year old dreams of…. Except she is having some odd dreams… A handsome stranger in a post apocalyptic world.
When she meets this handsome stranger while on vacation, Ava starts to understand that her dreams aren’t dreams at all but a prolific life she had no idea about. The more Ava learns about the lives she has forgotten, the more danger she and the people around her are in.
I’m glad I had book 2 because book one kinda stopped dead haha. I liked the concept of the book. I found it descriptive and interesting but like a baby bird, it was slowly shakingly finding its feet.
I wasn’t a fan of Aidan. I don’t know why but he had that controlling toxicity, I am protecting you for my own benefit vibe to him. I never warm up to him. I thought Ava came across naive and a little annoying at times but I understand that not knowing who you are can do that to a person.
I thought it was well constructed and had some serious potential to become a really solid series.
The writing came across a little amateurish in places but all in all I was really quite entertained.
3.75 stars! Solid start to the series
Book 2 Encroaching shadows.
Ava is not ok. The woman she thought was her mother, an imposter that burned her house to the ground, while Ava was inside it.
With Aidan, her half werewolf soul mate, she is even more desperate to recover the memories she is missing as her supernatural powers grow. Trust is now a commodity she doesn’t have and having Aidan hiding things from her isn’t helping with her trust issues. Finding herself strangely drawn to Kieran, Ava finds herself going against Aidan’s wishes on more than one occasion on her quest to figure out the right path and to find herself.
I still don’t like Aidan and I hate love triangles even more but I adore Kieran. He is definitely a better fit for Ava in my opinion. I feel like this book left me with more questions than were answered from the previous book which is clever of the author but also very annoying for me. The writing definitely improved in this book but sometimes I felt the storyline went off on a tangent that didn’t make sense to me but drew itself back on track quickly.
Definitely need to read book 3! Great job! 4 stars
